The Club

Our History

The University Club of Portland has stood as a downtown cornerstone since 1898 as a gathering place where Portlanders have come together through world wars, economic shifts, and cultural change. But while the city evolved, so did we. What began as a private club for professionals now reflects a diverse, multigenerational community of individuals and families who care deeply about connection, conversation, and shared values. Our clubhouse is more than just a landmark; it’s a living archive of stories, relationships, and renewal.

Our Ethos

Everything we do is rooted in a shared ethos: friendship, enrichment, and tradition. These three pillars aren’t just decorative - they guide how we gather, how we grow, and how we engage with each other and the city we call home. Our mission is to create a welcoming environment where members find belonging, purpose, and inspiration, whether they’re here for a quiet lunch, a lively debate, a spontaneous game of pitch, or a milestone celebration. Our vision is a Club shaped by its members and strengthened by its commitment to evolve with Portland’s vibrant community.

Our Purpose in Action

Dining & Philosophy

Dining at the University Club is a celebration of local abundance and thoughtful hospitality. Our Culinary Team draws from the Pacific Northwest’s bounty, creating seasonal offerings that are elegant without being fussy. Starting with our hydroponic garden on the fourth floor to the abundance of local farms that grows heirloom produce for our kitchen, our culinary program is a reflection of our commitment to sustainability, flavor, and shared experience.

Explore Every Flavor

Cellar & Beyond

Wine, cocktails, and conversation are central to life at the University Club. Members enjoy personalized pairings, a rotating wine list, and weekly tastings that invite discovery. Our temperature-controlled wine lockers offer convenience and privilege, including waived corkage on bottles enjoyed at the Club. Access to rare allocations, inventive cocktails, and curated nonalcoholic selections ensures every preference is welcomed. Here, the cellar is more than storage. It is a gathering place where stories are shared and celebrations find their spark.

Raise a Glass

Social Life

Life at the Club is all about connection. It’s a glass of wine after work, a spirited round of pitch, a seasonal gathering with family. No matter the occasion, there’s always something happening... and always someone to share it with. Our calendar is filled with signature events like Oktoberfest, Boxing Night, and the Holiday Formal, along with weekly traditions like Piano Bar and Wine Wednesdays. Affinity groups like Young Executives, Hiking, Mystery Book Lovers, and Travel make it easy to plug in, try something new, and find your people. Come for the programming, stay for the people.
